I love this country – without reservation. Though I may hem and haw at times, there is really no other place I’d rather call home. As part of that love and devotion, I question our leaders, and oftentimes have little faith in them and the decisions they make – and am not shy in expressing that. Especially when it comes to their decisions around the current situation in Iraq. However, I have never questioned those who serve – in Iraq or elsewhere. I have nothing but the utmost respect for, appreciation of, and gratitude toward those who have served and are serving in any of the military services – whether at home or abroad, regardless of my personal feelings about the conflict of which they may be a part.
This Memorial day, I’d like to take the opportunity to remember all those that have sacrificed their lives for their country. It’s because of their service that I can sit behind this keyboard and express my thoughts without fear of retribution from my government. Thank you – from the bottom of my heart.
